We do a digital envelope system, but instead of using an app and one budgeting account, we have an account for Stable Bills, Utilities, Car, Food, Clothing, Homeschooling, Household Needs, Medical, our own personal accounts for leisure, each kid’s personal account, Savings, and the Main account that all deposits go into and get distributed from. All accounts are at the same bank, and it’s easy to transfer between them when checks come in. I could set it up to be automatic, but I like the reminder and hands-on approach.

The Cash envelope system works perfectly for our family. I’m not sure why people say they “carry their whole budget with them?” We have 1 envelope we use per week and 1 per weekend and it contains ,food, fuel and spending money for that week only. Further more, we don’t even carry the entire weeks food cash since it’s broken down per day – food/spending. So basically 8 envelopes, then another for our cats, another for misc……….once you put fuel in your cars, you basically only carry around your food and spending money for “each day”. I’m really confused that people carry their monthly budget in their wallet just because it’s in envelopes????? These sound like paid responses.
