I Quit My Job: What I Learned About Knowing Your Worth

Quit My Job

I quit my job…

I wasn’t afraid and I wasn’t sad (well kinda but we’ll get to that). This job helped us pay off tens of thousands worth of debt. It helped me fund my Roth IRA for the first time EVER, provided me with the funds to finally buy DJ a Christmas gift debt free, and also helped us obtain our beautiful home and all of the gorgeous cash-flowed things in it.

Yet, it did not help me be my best self. And to me, that was a sad realization.

I had to quit my job because it added unnecessary stress and frustration to my life. My professional growth was stunted and actually started to regress. There were a lot of problems with the management and organization in general, so as a result, there really wasn’t anywhere for me to escape to within the company.

I was no longer growing, learning or doing work that excited me and it tore at me until I had nothing left but resentment.

Knowing When To Walk Away

Joyce Meyer always talks about knowing when it is your time to move on. When you’ve done all that you can in a relationship or job, you must know when to walk away. I knew for a long time that I needed to quit my job. Unfortunately, my stubbornness and naive hope for change kept me there a whole year too long.

So, why am I writing this post?

Great question!

I am writing this to show how important financial freedom is. Some may see a job as only a means to an end, but I do not. God has given me a limited time on this Earth and I want to use it wisely and have peace while doing so.

I want to love my life. You only get one go through. You don’t get to rewind. You don’t get do-overs. You only get one opportunity. Some of you have already wasted some of your life and you’d probably prefer not to waste any more of it! Joyce Meyer

I decided that I truly wanted to live the best life I possibly could. Once I made that decision, I knew that working at a job that was no longer serving my best interests would not allow me to do that.

How Could I Just Quit My Job, Though?

In order to prepare for this departure, DJ and I did a few simple, yet very important things:

I wasn’t appreciated at my job even though I could’ve done so much to turn things around. At the end of the day, I had to realize that it wasn’t my battle to fight any longer, and I was okay with that.

I was ready to take a leap of faith and I did just that. I could go on about my lackluster manager and talk about how she was somehow upset that I’d want more but I don’t care. Her actions at the end reassured me that this was definitely the right decision.

So, Whats Next?

I hope to have a new position that will provide me with the flexibility to pursue my dreams, educational pursuits, and financial goals.

I don’t want there to be a ceiling in place to limit my potential. I want to have increased opportunities to earn what I’m worth, learn what I’m capable of accomplishing, and work with individuals that I can truly grow with.

I’m excited for this new season in my life and I hope this change will inspire all of you as well! <3

Loooooove this post. I’ve been feeling this way about my job/industry for quite some time but have been chained to a paycheck because of debt. Now that it’s almost paid off, I feel the weight lifting and my thoughts shifting. This was just the message I needed today. Thanks for the insightful post.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read my post! This was definitely a tough decision to make. You’re right though, once you start getting your finances under control you start to feel like you can actually take your control back. We shouldn’t have to suffer at jobs we hate just to collect a paycheck, there is so much more to life! <3
